Menopause

Menopause is clinically defined as having gone 12 consecutive months without a menstrual cycle. Menopause is not a disease, but a natural phase in a woman’s life. It can occur at various ages, but the age range that most women experience menopause is between ages 45 and 55. Besides natural menopause, surgical menopause occurs immediately if both ovaries are surgically removed. Premature menopause, whether natural or induced, occurs before age 40. According to the International Menopause Society, while 30% of cases are autoimmune with antibodies destroying ovarian egg cells, the major cause (40%) is unknown. Perimenopausal stage - time before menopause - can last years.

Intended Use: The FSH Menopause Rapid Test Cassette is a lateral flow immunoassay for the qualitative detection of Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) in urine to aid in the detection of menopause.

Principle: Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) is produced by the pituitary gland to foster the growth and maturation of a woman’s eggs. As a woman approaches menopause, a low ovarian egg supply triggers the body to release FSH in higher-than-normal amounts. The test detects this surge to aid in identifying the menopausal transition.

MenoSure contains 3 individually packed test kits to be used in three consecutive months. Since FSH secretion is pulsatile and varies throughout the day, a single measurement can be misleading; elevated levels must be confirmed by more than one test.

Intended Users: Women experiencing irregular periods, hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, sleep disturbances, brain fog etc. If you suspect you are going through perimenopause, you can use MenoSure.

How to Use the Test Kit

This test can be used anytime except during the midcycle (8-15 days after menstruation bleeding ceases). FSH levels should normally be below 25 mIU/mL (negative test) except at mid cycle. Positive test results at times other than mid cycle should be discussed with a healthcare professional.

Test Procedure

  • Collect your urine in a clean, dry plastic or glass container. Avoid using your first morning urine; for best results, collect the sample between 10:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M.
  • Allow the test cassette and the urine sample to reach room temperature (20-30°C) prior to testing.
  • Remove the test cassette from its sealed foil pouch. Hold the dropper vertically and squeeze 3 full drops (approximately 100 µL) of urine into the specimen well.
  • Wait for the colored lines to appear. Interpret the results at 3-5 minutes and strictly do not read the results after 10 minutes.

How to Interpret the Results

  • Positive: Two color bands are visible, and the test line (T) is equal to or darker than the control line (C). This means your FSH level is at or above 25 mIU/mL, suggesting you may be transitioning into menopause. Please repeat the FSH test for three consecutive months. If positive results during three consecutive months or inconsistent results, consult with a physician.
  • Negative: Only the control line (C) appears, or the test line (T) is visible but lighter than the control line. This indicates your FSH concentration is below the 25 mIU/mL threshold.
  • Invalid: No line appears in the control region (C). This means the test failed, please repeat with another test kit.

Limitations of the Test Kits

  • Confirmation Required: Because FSH secretion is pulsatile and varies throughout the day, a single measurement can be misleading; elevated levels must be confirmed by more than one test.
  • Medication Interference: While common pain relievers and antibiotics will not affect the test, using a patch or pill containing HCG or LH may alter the results.
  • Not for Definite Timelines: A positive result indicates above-average FSH levels but cannot determine exactly when menopause will be reached.
  • Not for Pregnancy: The test will not work properly if you are pregnant or already fully menopausal.
